Shank's Fan Mail

Ok so I am normally not one to say things like this, but this might have been the best cheesesteak of my life. No lie. So if my careful(ish) calculations are correct, which I believe they are, this might be the best cheesesteak in the world. It is hands down MY reigning champ.

Stopped by Shank's at Pier 40 for pre-opening food tasting and the chicken cutlet italiano was amazing, can't wait for the official opening

MY WIFE AND I VISITED SHANKS (I'VE BEEN COMING THERE FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS) IN MID-APRIL, AND, AS USUAL, WE HAD A GREAT LUNCH. THOSE PICKLED TOMATOES ARE STILL OUT OF SIGHT, AND THE CHICKEN PARM SANDWICH CONTINUES TO REIGN SUPREME IN MY MIND. WE HAVE TO FIND YOUR NEW LOCATION, 'CAUSE, WE'LL BE THERE TO SEE YOU AGAIN....AND AGAIN.....AND AGAIN. EWC

Awesome! I started working at a new location several years ago and it was too far for me to visit for lunch for your roast beef sandwich that I craved. At least once a week I would say that I was going to get on a bus and get a sandwich. Now, you are moving right around the corner from my office! I have been spreading the word to my co-workers. Open soon and good luck with your new location

I've been going to Shanks with my husband for the last 20 years. He grew up in the neighborhood and got me hooked. My favorite is the Health Sandwich. When we go to the city - we go to Shanks.

Bravo Lima Haddon Twp. NJ wrote Part of the stigma ""growing up in South Philly"" is the people the friends and the food. The girls at Shanks kept that tradition going all these years. The people that frequented and the friendly atmosphere with good food. Now it's time to move on. I thought these words from Robert Frost poem ""Reluctance"" says it all...
Ah, when to the heart of man Was it ever less than a treason To go with the drift of things, To yield with a grace to reason, And bow and accept the end Of a love or a season? Evelyn and staff good luck and God speed

I never knew of such a great place until
my boss brought me the best peppers and eggs sandwich back to the office with him. When he stops at your place, I know I am going to get the best lunch ever. Thanks for making it great. All of your food is out of this world. I was so happy to hear that you are coming to Center City. Now I can bring my husband home some of your great food to eat. Thanks again.

When ever my husband and I come to
the Italian Market we love going to Shank's for lunch. My favorite is their chicken cutlet and spinach platter. My husband loves the pork sandwich and veal parm. We're sorry to it close in South Philly but we'll be at the new place.

Back in the 1970's my Dad, who was a traveling salesman and had customers in the neighborhood, took me to Shank and Evelyn's for the first time. The place was amazing with the smell of delicious food coming from the kitchen, mixed with the talk at the counter between the regulars and the staff who were obviously family. Shank and Evelyn's was a unique experience which I will miss at the original location. I heard you have have moved and I look forward to visiting the new locations in the near future.

I've been a huge supporter and fan of Shank's for over 15 years and although I have many great memories of terrific meals, two occasions stand out:

1. I was the only customer in the luncheonette when Mario Batali was onsite to shoot an episode for the Food Network. He first worked in the kitchen preparing chicken cutlets and then he moved up front where he tried his hand at preparing a cheesesteak. He chatted with the girls and me and I recall how hot he was under the lights (his make-up melted) and how he jokingly complained that that always happened to fat guys. A great time was had by all.

2. My son and I went to an Eagles game and on our way in stopped at Shank's Booth for a pre-game snack. As we approached, I was greeted by Theresa and a big hello! She made a big fuss over my son and of course made sure we left very well fed.

I'll miss seeing all of you at the 10th Street location but rest assured I'll see you all at the new location! Best of luck with the move!

My wife and I and our Penn Grad daughter just love to go to Shanks for breakfast. I particularly like their ham & cheese omelets with thick chunks of ham and a loaf of Italian bread. Also, the chicken cutlet sandwiches are the best. Most of all, I'll miss the ambiance! Evelyn and family are wonderful! Who cares what Zagat thinks! As soon as you walk in, they make you feel right at home. I live in Cherry Hill, but I feel like I'm part of their neighborhood. One more thing, don't forget to take home some meat balls! They're the best
.

I've gone in and bought some hoagie's
and took them home to our contractor's and we all enjoyed them. Your pepper's and egg's are the best in town. We had a meal from your son's place and it was excellent. Over all I would rate your food at least five
